Character Name: Rose Wilson / Ravager
Series: DC Comics
Age: 19-20
From When?: Just after Ravager: Fresh Hell in 2010 - 2011

Inmate/Warden: Inmate!

Rose has ever been a very morally grey person. She has a strong sense of justice and of what is right and wrong, and she desires to do the right thing. However her methods at getting to that can often be extreme, bordering the line on criminal vigilantism. She has a huge guilt for not only the things she has done but the things her father has done and she will go to any means necessary to gain the edge to make up for them.

This tends to lead her into self-destructive courses of action such as throwing herself into life-threatening situations, drug addiction and just a general lack of regard for the well being of anyone she deems ‘evil.’ She often feels no remorse for killing these aforementioned ‘evil’ people and sometimes loses herself in it.

A Warden would most probably need to help her find some measure of peace with herself, and the guilt and rage that she carries around. As well as to show her moral compass which way is which.

Abilities/Powers: Rose’s main power of note is a limited form of precognition (that I like to call “battle-precognition” since it currently hinges on her adrenaline being at higher than normal levels, most often occurring when she is in a fight.) that allows her to see a few seconds into the future, essentially letting her know her opponent’s next move before they take it. On epinephrine, a drug that catalyses adrenaline production in the body, she claimed to being able to see as far as weeks into the future. This suggests that her abilities could grow to be more powerful than the currently are, however at this stage that would be irrelevant. How this would affect her in normal life I am not sure. It’s a pretty innocuous ability and I’m unsure if it needs to be nerfed. However if so I’d recommend it be removed completely as in canon she’s only shown having the ability (under normal circumstances) to see maybe two or three seconds into the future. Barring that, perhaps limiting the development of her ability so that even barring special circumstances she would not be able to see further than her usual two to three seconds into the future.

Aside from that, due to the serum her father injected into her Rose has gained enhanced strength, speed, stamina, agility, intelligence and durability that slightly surpass those of a normal human in peak physical condition. Strength-wise she has been shown strong enough to hold a full-grown man off the ground with one arm and break her swords numerous times against super-durable enemies.

Trained to be agile and flexible, her enhanced speed and agility allow her to respond a fraction of a second quicker to most threats and successfully execute risky manoeuvres that would be many times riskier for an un-enhanced human to attempt. She’s been shown to be agile enough to dodge gunfire at mid-range, run along walls for short distances, and incorporate complicated acrobatics into her fighting style. While not a special ability in itself, her enhanced reflexes to lend her an edge when it comes to pulling off these moves.

Talking about durability, Rose has an extremely high tolerance to pain, able to function capably even with broken limbs and a great number injuries. From a purely physical standpoint she’s been shown to withstand blows that would cripple or even kill a normal human without life-threatening injury. That is not to say she takes no damage, however her physiology seems to be much more resilient than that of a normal human, for example taking a punch that would shatter a baseline’s bones and sustaining only (though substantial) damage to her soft tissues.

Of these three areas I think the most likely to be nerfed would be her strength if that’s deemed necessary. While she wouldn’t qualify as super-strong, she is an incredibly heavy hitter for someone of her size, able to easily launch opponents long distances with her blows and shatter hard materials. How much of this is training and how much of this is her actual enhanced strength is slightly unclear. If it is nerfed I’d imagine her not being able to lift a full grown man with one arm but maybe needing both, like a normal person at their peak? I’m not sure that her reflexes or durability need to be toned down, but I will defer to the mods on this.

The rules state that if my character cannot be defeated by a normal human in peak physical condition they will need to be nerfed. Canonically, Batman, Nightwing and most probably even Robin could take her down if the circumstances called for it, none of whom are enhanced in any way. I’m not sure if their training excludes them from the above requisite. But if not then I don’t think any of Rose’s abilities require nerfing. However, I will defer to the mods’ discretion on this as I’m not quite sure.

As for skills, Rose has been shown to be an extremely proficient martial artist and hand-to-hand combatant as well as a masterful wielder of almost any melee weapon she can get her hands on. Preferring her swords, she is an extremely skilled combatant with one or two blades able to best even Cassandra Cain on at least one occasion and numerous opponents in the Dark Side Club with no further equipment. While she is proficient with firearms she tends to stay away from them and as such is not as skilled in their use as she is with most melee weapons. Rose has also trained in several styles of movement based disciplines with Nightwing and on her own, thus making her an extremely agile and dangerous combatant.

Personality: Rose is…abrasive, to put it mildly. In her early years, before she became Ravager she is shown to be quiet, reserved, and something of a big sister figure to the younger Titans. Her experiences though, have hardened her to the point that it can often seem like there is nothing left inside her but “piss and vinegar.” Looking to the identifier used for her by most of the Titans she is often a “real bitch” in that she rarely bothers to censor herself, is insanely confident (to the point of egoistic) of her abilities, and incredibly dismissive of anyone she perceives as weak or anyone who doesn’t seem to take their circumstances seriously. Being possessed of a keen intellect and knowledge of strategy and tactics, she is fully aware of her limits and weaknesses and how to compensate for them. This intellect also allows her to adapt quickly to a myriad of situations and effectively improvise.

Just past that abrasiveness though, is a young thrill junkie who gets off on adventure and competition in all its forms. Be that a battle with some supervillain, tramping through the forest in some unknown dimension, or hunting down a cadre of slave traders Rose loves nothing more than to get down and dirty and simply lose herself in the experience. Often this can come off as her being brash or headstrong, in that her eagerness to simply get out and do something can often overpower the good sense of proper planning and adequate preparation. That is not to say however that she charges in mindlessly, Rose has utmost pride and confidence in her own ability to handle anything that is thrown her way and loves nothing better than to simply go with the flow and see what happens next.

It is often difficult to get her to open up in any way and she is more likely to diffuse any painful personal anecdote with a layer of humour or levity than to truly recount it. She has a lot of trouble with identifying emotions outside of rage and frustration and tends to avoid situations where dealing with any such emotional input would be required. Once she opens up however, she is fiercely loyal and extremely protective of those she has taken into her “family” whether or not she particularly likes them. This is evidenced in the way she fights to the point of being physically battered in order to provide Wendy and Marvin with an opening to escape Titans Tower when the Terror Titans attack, as well as when she attacks Bombshell to make her understand that the Titans are family and thus not to be messed with. Rose has an unwavering loyalty to those she considers family and is not beyond using any method at her disposal to ensure they stay safe.

A lot of the above stems from the fact that she herself comes from an incredibly broken and complicated family dynamic; while this facet of her personality isn’t very well fleshed out in her source material, it really shines through just how much she yearns for a real sense of belonging when she immediately takes to her brother, Jericho after his return to a physical body, as well as how she falls into a self-destructive cycle when she believes the Titans do not see her as a teammate but a loose cannon to be controlled. I believe that, like many children from broken homes, Rose struggles with a desire to belong, whilst at the same time feeling profoundly alienated from all those around her by virtue of her parenthood and the things she has done.

Being on the whole rather blasé when it comes to the realm of emotions, Rose would have a hard time expressing them even if she were able to identify them effectively. The veneer of flinty toughness she puts up however, simply covers an incredibly frightened and damaged individual. The betrayal by her father who not only injected her with his mind control serum but implanted a radioactive material into her eye socket and has attacked her and her team many times over makes it very difficult for Rose to trust anyone outside herself. Deeply emotionally scarred and traumatised by a life of struggle, guilt, and loss; the damage often manifests itself in rage, frustration, and self-destructive tendencies. However Rose herself would be hard pressed to put a finger on just what the root of her turmoil is, having pushed it aside in a bid to simply forget it all.

She has been shown to have a deep need for acceptance, specially in her relationship with Kid Devil with whom she was barely “hang out buddies” until his openness and unconditional acceptance of who she was won her trust. With people like this she is not averse to showing a kind and almost teenagery side of her nature, more akin to the girl she was before becoming Ravager. Often though, such closeness will scare her and cause her to close up again or try to distance herself from them in order to protect herself from any hurt.

Barge Reactions: The first word that comes to mind is “badly.” Rose isn’t known for her patience or calm reasoning and thus would be most likely to fly off the handle at finding herself held prisoner in such a place as well as becoming somewhat resentful of the fact that she is an Inmate in need of “rehab.” It is in her nature to be adaptable however so it’s most likely that after a period she would settle into the routine, however her resentment would most probably not fade and she would most probably tend to be very antagonistic toward most aspects of life aboard the Barge.

As for reacting to other character types, fandoms and genres as well as flood or breaches, Rose will most probably react the same as she reacts to most things? Bitch first, figure it all out later, hardly ever apologise. That isn’t to say she’ll be un-participative or start random trouble (though the latter is a possibility with this one,) she just tends to be antagonistic toward almost everything at the beginning before resigning herself to her fate and just making the best of it in the end, or biding her time and waiting for her chance to strike.

Path to Redemption: The best way to get through to Rose, at least initially, is to offer her acceptance. Well perhaps not acceptance exactly, but a place to belong, something that makes her feel like she is a part of something. That will help open the door, however to bring about any lasting change, her Warden would need to deal with the past traumas in her life, get her to open up and acknowledge them so that she can move past them and no longer carry around the guilt, rage, and frustration that she currently does.

Triggers to do this would most probably be talking about her relationship with her father in a way that doesn’t bring up just what he is and what he’s done, and also getting her to see that she isn’t bound to the same fate that he is. As for motive, getting her to acknowledge that she isn’t her father and that she needs to move out of his shadow and create herself as a person in her own right would most probably be more effective. Showing her that there are ways to fight evil without killing, that sort of thing. She’s closer to a case of domestic abuse than anything else. Dealing with all the emotional baggage will be the key to helping her reform herself. Also, getting her to care about or look to something other than herself for a sense of validation would also help her to move past these issues.

History: Rose was born in an indeterminate location to Lillian Worth, a former lover of Slade Wilson, also known as Deathstroke the Terminator. Settling just outside New York with her mother who opened and operated a brothel, Rose lived in the lap of luxury surrounded by many friends her own age and schooled by the best private tutors her mother could find. During this time she also studied basic self defense.

Rose first became involved in Slade’s life when, at the age of fourteen she was identified as his daughter by his right hand man Wintergreen. Shortly after this, she was kidnapped by Deathstroke’s half brother Wade DeFarge, calling himself the Ravager. Whilst being tortured by her captor it was revealed to her that she was indeed the daughter of Slade Wilson. She was soon rescued by Wintergreen and her mother however, and in a bid to keep her daughter safe, Lillian attempted to kill DeFarge by running him over in a Jeep, causing an accident and leaving her presumably dead though her body was never found. Rose was subsequently left in the care of Wintergreen and had extremely limited contact with her father, who had decided that it was best if she had no connection to him, to keep her safe. Slade however, had already made arrangements for her to be placed with the Titans for her own protection.

Soon, Rose was living in the Tower together with the Titans, training and learning alongside them. Her powers first manifested during this time as the result of a training exercise between her and the Titan Damage. Injured and in a coma, Rose had an extensive precognitive vision of her father’s future. In this vision she found herself in astral form and was even able to possess the body of a someone in the future, very much akin to the abilities of her body-swapping brother, Jericho. Waking before she could fully explore her abilities, Rose began to become increasingly sullen and withdrawn due to the loss of her mother. She rejected the friendly overtures of her fellow Titans, eventually deciding to leave the team and create a life of her own, presumably with a friend of her mother’s, finally being offered a job by Roy Harper as the nanny of his daughter Lian. Accepting, she went to serve as Lian’s nanny for a time, caring for and protecting her.

After a time however, Rose was next seen living with an adoptive family named the Madisons, trying her best to have a normal life despite her past. She was however, again targeted by Wade DeFarge who murders her adoptive parents, this time under the employ of her father as a ruse to bring them together. Saved by Deathstroke, her father offers to train her and take her under his wing. Tired of being weak, she accepts his offer, executing his first order without hesitation. Killing Wade Defarge. With him dead, Rose took the name Ravager for herself and began working closely with her father in his work. However, she was at this time unaware that her father had injected her with the same serum which gave him how powers. This eventually led to her mental instability.

With her father Rose fought against her former friends, the Titans, going so far as to help her father in a plot to capture Raven. At a critical moment however, she was unable to kill her resurrected half-brother, Jericho, causing Slade to decide that she is not cut out for the work he requires of her and to cut her loose. Spurred by the instability caused by her father’s serum, her desire to prove her worth to him caused Rose gouged out her own left eye with a knife, proclaiming that she was “just like daddy.” After this incident she would clash with Cassandra Cain, then in the identity of Batgirl. Her loss in this battle prompted her father to seek out Nightwing, then masquerading in the “villainous” identity of “Renegade” to train her.

During this training, her father decided to use Rose to test Nightwing’s true loyalties. To do this, he have Rose a new eye carved from Kryptonite and pit her and Nightwing against Superman. Throughout this period, Nightwing sought to teach Rose to see things in a different light from her father, and the fight with Superman (ending with him not only saving the citizens in danger but also Rose herself, despite her attempt on his life) served as her final lesson in altruism. After this, Nightwing struck a deal with Deathstroke to stay away from Rose in return for the safety of his city, Bludhaven. Deathstroke reneged on his end of the bargain when he allowed the city to be bombed by the Secret Society of Supervillains, causing Nightwing to get even by taking Rose away from him. To do this, he informed her that the Kryptonite her father had placed in her eye socket was in fact a carcinogenic and lethal to humans after prolonged periods of exposure. Enraged by her father’s betrayal, and with Nightwing’s lessons still fresh in mind, Rose abandoned her father’s life and ran away yet again.

After the serum had run its course, allowing her mind to clear; Rose, at the behest of Nightwing, joined the Teen Titans again. Due to her past actions the team was initially hesitant to extend their trust to her, leading her to fear for her position, specially after Wonder Girl and Cyborg returned. Due to this, she tried to seduce Robin, going so far as to appear naked in his bed. Her advances rejected however, she quickly jumped into action for the next mission.

After a time with them, Titans Tower was attacked by the Terror Titans whilst only Rose and the Tower’s keepers, Wendy and Marvin were present. Using a pair of energy blades that she stole from Robin’s locker (which deactivated if they touched anything living,) she held off the attackers long enough for the twins to escape before triggering a massive explosion out one side of the building. Initially thought to be dead (though Blue Beetle soon proved that this was not the case by tracing the energy signature of the swords she used) she used the ruse of her death to infiltrate the base of the Terror Titans and aided in the rescue of Kid Devil and Miss Martian.

After this event however, she overheard a conversation between Wonder Girl and Robin about her actions, stating that she was “out of control” and that “there would be consequences.” Taking this to mean they would soon be kicking her off the team, Rose voluntarily left and undertook her own mission to infiltrate and take down the Terror Titans. Though her motivations were unclear at the time, in the end she proved instrumental in Miss Martian’s plan to bring down the Dark Side Club. After this event, Rose briefly returned to the Titans, helping them to again solve the problem of her half-brother who had again lost his mind and begun killing people. Learning that he was being targeted by the assassin Vigilante, she struck a deal for her brother’s life. The assassin however, left him alive, gouging out both his eyes and leaving rose enraged.

Returning to the Titans after this incident, Rose continued to feel alienated from her former teammates and as if she was not wanted on the team despite the protests of her friend Eddie Bloomberg. After an altercation with the former Titan’s traitor Bombshell wherein Rose attacked her in order to determine her true loyalties, Wonder Girl’s hysterics caused Rose to again decide to leave the Titans, this time imploring Eddie to leave with her. Turning down her request however, Eddie said she belonged with the Titans. Ultimately, she chose to ignore his words and elected not to stay instead striking out on her own and wandering wherever her feet took her.

During this time, she became addicted to epinephrine, the drug given to her by Clock King, leader of the Terror Titans. The drug allowed her to access her abilities in a fuller way than she had previously been able, allowing her to see further into the future. She used this ability to see more of the future, trying to find her own place in the world. During her wandering though, she began to hallucinate and have black outs, eventually leading her to crash her motorcycle. Upon waking she made her way to a nearby bar where she was attacked and proceeded to thrash all her opponents before coughing blood and passing out.

Upon awakening again, she was informed by the resident doctor that her epinephrine addiction had wreaked havoc with her internal organs, causing her lungs to begin filling with fluid. He also informed her that if continued to take the drug, her organs would begin to fail and she would inevitably die. During her recovery, she met an Englishman named Will Rhoades who offered her his cabin to rest and recuperate in. Unbeknownst to her, the entire small town now knew that she was the Ravager, having gone through her things while she was unconscious. Due to this, while relaxing in Will’s cabin, she was attacked by a band of assassins, hired by Rhoades himself.

Escaping them, Rose tracked Will down only to find that he was the leader of a slavery ring, capturing young women and selling them into prostitution and lives of servitude. Enraged by this injustice, Rose attacked, determined to free all the women currently held captive. During a battle with Will, her precognitive abilities failed to see his moves due to the poison he had previously injected into her system, allowing her to be defeated and taken captive. Awaking weeks later, she became the victim of Will’s attempts to condition her to be his own private assassin. Breaking free, she chased down Will and his men once again freeing the prisoners and crushing his operation in the small town. Upon interrogation of the men however, she learned that Will was long gone.

Tracking him down, she once again attacked his operation, busting in during the middle of a deal he was negotiating. During the battle, Will took two of his captives hostage, murdering one in front of Rose and managing to severely wound the other as she tried to intervene. Enraged at her failure to save the hostages as well as their treatment at the hands of Will and his men, Rose lost control and murdered the entire roomful of thugs, though Will escaped during the confusion. Taking the severely wounded girl to the hospital, Rose considered stealing some prescription medication before receiving an invitation from Will who threatened to kill all the remaining girls if she failed to appear for a showdown.

Appearing at the appointed place, Rose found the remaining girls held at gunpoint. Will ordered his men to kill them should she lose the match, speculating that the reason she murdered his men during the previous battle was due to her own wounded pride rather than the damage done to the girls. Following this, he shot her in the shoulder before moving in for the killing shot to the head. Disarming him, Rose shot one of his men, only to have him stab her in the shoulder again and order his men to kill the girls. Thinking she had lost, Rose regained her strength upon seeing one of the girls with the fallen guard’s gun turn it on her captors. Handing Will a decisive beating, she saved the remaining girls and dragged him away tightly bound.

The next morning, Rose experienced a hallucination of Eddie, as Kid Devil (who at this point had already died unbeknownst to her) recounting to her how she was able to win and expressing regret that he had not followed her and that it was now too late. Checking in on the girl she had left in the hospital, Rose found that she had died from the gunshot wound inflicted by will. At that, Rose broke into the store room and stole a bag full of prescription drugs before leaving. Returning to the docks, she spent time musing on her decisions up to that point and came to the decision to disregard the standards of others and live by her own moral code. Upon deciding this, she lifted Will off the ground nearby, holding him upside-down with his head underwater until he drowned to death. She then left on her own again, taking the bag of drugs with her.

It is soon after this point that she comes to the Barge.

Sample Journal Entry:

[ Rose is glaring right into the camera, one good eye blazing fiercely at the lens as if it’s the cause of all her problems. ]

This is such bullshit. I don’t need to be in this place. What the hell do I even need rehabilitation for?

[ Her expression shifts to one of annoyance and she looks offscreen for a moment, her hand coming into frame to set a cigarette between her lips. ]

This all sounds like some stupid idea Nightwing would have, help me deal with my issues and all that crap.

How long is it doing to take these do-gooders to understand that I don’t need help? Just ‘cause I don’t do things the way they like doesn’t mean I don’t get results.

[ She lights the cigarette, taking a deep pull before leaning back to blow the smoke at the ceiling. ]

I kill. Big deal. If someone had put the Joker out of our collective misery years ago, I’m sure a whole fuckload of people would still be a live right now.

And I’m the one who ends up on the H.M.S. Rehab? This is such bullshit.

Sample RP:

Rose leapt over the pommel horse, twisting her body and tucking her knees up close to her chest. Landing on her hands, she pushed her legs upward, corkscrewing into the air before landing on her feet again. A twitch crossed her features, the only indication of annoyance she would allow herself. The form was right, but she was pulling the move off too slow. Not that it was something that would ever come in handy in a fight, but hell, it wasn’t as if she had anything better to do on this miserable boat, did she? Letting out an explosive sigh, she moved across the gym to her bag. This was such bullshit; she didn’t even get her swords? How the hell was she supposed to practice effectively if she didn’t have them? Your body moved differently when you carried weight like that, not being prepared for it could throw off your balance when you needed it the most.

Sometimes she wondered if the do-gooders even had a clue what they were doing. The decision to bring her to this damned place as an inmate was already stupid enough. What had she done to deserve this crap? All she’d ever done was try to help people, plus, she hadn’t even asked for this life. She hadn’t asked to be the daughter of Deathstroke, she’d been perfectly content living her little suburban life. If she was going to get right down to it, all this was really on Slade wasn’t it? Who was the one who pumped her full of that goddamned serum? Then again, the Titan’s had never really tried to reintegrate her into normal society, had they? It was all bullshit, she’d never asked for this life, she was just trying to do the best she could with what she had. Tch, rehab. What a crock.

Grabbing her bottle of water, she took a mouthful before moving across to the bags. It was always easier in the gym for some reason. Easy to lose herself in the pounding rhythm and just let the sweat cleanse her of her anxieties. She took a swing, her bare fist thumping solidly into the punching bag and sending it swinging. Good. More. The bag swung back and she swung again, her other fist fast as a viper smacking into the bag. The rhythm was good. The bag swung away, then closer again and this time she let it out. The barrage of jabs, hooks and uppercuts sent the bag careening wildly around as she danced on the balls of her feet, dodging imaginary blows, ducking and bobbing and weaving and just loving the feel of the tension flowing out of her muscles. The bag swung back and she whirled, lightning fast, her leg a blur of motion as it shot forward.

Sand trickled to the floor from the burst punching bag. The thing hung there forlornly as its essence flowed out onto the gym mats and Rose watched impassively, liking the feeling of the sand between her bare toes. She loved it in her, this was her temple, her sanctuary, the one place other than the thick of battle where she could just let it all go, all the doubts and the guilt. Fuck them all and their rehab. They wanted her to be a good girl? She could do that, she’d play along with their stupid mind games and pretend that everything was all better because they talked it to death. Being a good girl was no problem, whatever it took to get off this damn ship and back where she could make a difference.

“You want me to be a good girl? I’ll be the best damn one you ever saw.”

Grabbing her bag she made for the exit, the sand still trickling soundlessly to the floor as she shut off the lights.

Special Notes: Nothing specific, just wondering if Rose could have her costume with her when she appears? Pretty sure the swords are out of the question, right?
